What is this SCRIP business, anyway?

Here's how it works:

The PTO can purchase gift cards, or SCRIP, in bulk from certain stores, and get a discount (the amount varies by store, but grocery stores, for example, are usually 5%). So if we buy $1,000 worth of SCRIP from Shaw's/Star Market, we only have to pay $950. The PTO then sells the gift cards/SCRIP for face value and pockets the difference. For example, if you buy a $100 worth of Shaw's gift cards from the PTO, you write us a check for $100 and use the card to get $100 worth of groceries, while the PTO pockets $5!

We'll deliver them to you!

In 2003/2004 the Burr PTO raised $1,960 from sales of SCRIP alone! And last year we made $800!

Want to help out?! A few extra hands could make this SCRIP program soar -- at present, we are only able to offer SCRIP from a tiny fraction of the businesses who are willing to participate.
